How It All Started Next
Penelope in her workroom

My Grandmother was a dressmaker, and the creative gene was transferred to my Mum, and her family. My Mum was a dressmaker, along with two of my Aunt’s, and another Aunt of mine was an artist.

My Dad and I would watch old Hollywood movies together, which is where a lot of my silhouettes and styles are inspired. My dad has inspired my style; my Mum has inspired my creativity.

I was given my first tiny sewing machine when I was only about 6. I was always taking off the Barbie clothes and wanting to make my own, and I was always begging Mum to create tiny Barbie clothes on her huge industrial sewing machine! Every time I had a party to go to, I would tell my Mum what I wanted, and she would whip up some outstanding number, and Christmas mornings was always highlighted by the arrival of a new party dress!
